el-e-men-tal: Embodying the Powers of Nature.
‘When you master the elements of air and water, you become an unsinkable force of nature!”
The philosophy behind Elemental Aquatics is simple: water is a vital element to our well-being, and the healing power of water can greatly improve many facets of an individual’s health. Swim lesson programs are abundant in San Diego, but my mission is to create a program where special needs ( and also “typical”) children and families needing a different aquatic experience can feel welcomed. Gone are the large group lessons, and loud, crowded pools. The calmer enviornment at Elemental Aquatics can help improve motor function, improve symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, satisfy the need for sensory stimulation, and of course, learn to swim. The philosophy for my learn- to- swim students is child-centered, and rooted in building trust first, followed by firm boundaries wrapped in empathy and compassion. Some tools used in lessons are guided exploration, story boards, pictures, PECS, songs, and sensory tools, while using developmentally appropriate progressions to enhance learning and to develop confidence. Curriculum teaches the numerous aquatic competencies of water survival all the way through to the 4 competetive strokes.
